worth the money.
Inland Empire- David Lynch's newest hallucinatory
mind trip (his most ambitious yet, which says
much). A film with hardly any narrative in which
whores sing the "the Loco-Motion"
and sitcoms are acted out by rabbits? 3 hours
long and pretty infuriating if not familiar
with the directors work. Exclusive engagement
in New York City IFC Center until December 20th.
The Fountain- 6 years in the making and you
can see the effort. Darren Arronofsky's third
feature film, following Pi and Requiem for a
Dream, is not unlike Inland Empire in that it's
also a complete mind trip, but The Fountain
is in completely different vein. Where as Inland
is more dark, this is more heartbreaking. To
Quote imdb.com, "Spanning over one thousand
years, and three parallel stories, The Fountain
is a story of love, death, spirituality, and
the fragility of our existence in this world."
Enjoy.
The Departed- Bleak and memorizing. Scorsese's
newest film is a new classic for the director.
Not to mention, Jack Nicholson's maddening performance
as a crime boss. I think we'll see some Oscars
going this way this coming award season. Not
To Be Missed.
Tenacious D: Pick of Destiny- Much lighter then
anything else mentioned above. A musical-comedy
that you'll be surely laughing at. Jack Black
and Kyle Gass star making their real life band,
Tenacious D, a fictitious and new band in this
movie. Cameos coming from all over including:
Dio, Meatloaf, Tim Robbins, and Dave Groul.
Borat- Hilarious. If you're easily offended,
don't go. If you have a sense of humor, go for
it. Funniest film of the year, maybe even years.
Movies Not Worth Your Money.
Turistas- Re-using plot elements from past horror
films in the past YEAR. Not even waiting longer.
S T A Y A W A Y.
Saw III- This might be your thing. It's not
mine. After Saw II, I had enough. Is it the
gore that shuns me away? Not in the least. The
bad acting, lame scripting and just overall
horrible franchise this has become pushes me
away.
National Lampoon's Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj-
A sequel to the ok comedy, National Lampoon's
Van Wilder. Okay we understand that. Where's
Van Wilder? We don't understand that. The movie
is about Van's personal assistant from the first
movie, coming up on his own at another college
acting like Van the whole time. Wow. Cool. Except
it isn't.
All in all, originally in today's movies is
hard to find. Look at your movie listings and
see what's a sequel, remake, adaptation of a
book, story or TV show. Even The Departed, one
of the best films of the year is a remake of
an Asian film entitled Internal Affairs. But
Scorsese shows that just because you're remaking
something, doesn't mean you have to suck.
